Our Idiot Brother ReviewThis is a really fun, sweet and warm soundtrack to a movie of like character. Eric D. Johnson's original compositions are enjoyable for multiple listenings, and the other artists like Willie Nelson and Carole King just fill out this soundtrack so that throughout you feel like Ned, just feeling your way through life. It gives you pause and relish. I say, I am glad I bought this.Our Idiot Brother OverviewThe Our Idiot Brother soundtrack album's 16 tracks are a reflection of the film's mirthful quirkiness. The score was written by film composer, musician and author NATHAN LARSON (Boys Don't Cry, The Woodsman and The Messenger) and Fruit Bats' founder ERIC D. JOHNSON. Johnson contributed an alt incredibly cool version of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree" to the lineup and Larson "Mellotron Melody." Another stand out is the infectious "Taking You With Me," a youthful alt country duet from MINDY SMITH and DANIEL TASHIAN written especially for the film. One of the Johnson-Larson tracks, "Cowboys and Hobos," features guest vocalist NINA PERSSON of the Swedish reared band THE CARDIGANS (whose offstage life includes being married to Larson). Check out "Lightning Bug," an unreleased track from Johnson's own FRUIT BATS and "Cool Yourself" by Thao with the Get Down Stay Down from their cult classic album Know Better Learn Faster. There's more: "When They Fight They Fight," from throwback popsters the Generationals and "The Things You Lost" from singer/tunesmith El May (aka Lara Meyerratken). Also included is CAROLE KING's Tapestry classic "Beautiful" as well as three offerings from the WILLIE NELSON canon: "Wonderful Future," "Midnight Rider" and "Ol' Blue."

Bob Dylan Revealed (2011) ReviewI did learn a lot about my man in the '60s and early '70s. I didn't follow his career much after that, so I found this an easy way to catch up, although the DVD does not cover his comeback in 1997. Many talking heads, including various band members, and occasional short interviews from the past provided lots of little details and yet so much was left out too.
The editing could have been tighter to make the 110 minutes less boring; I also didn't like the style of the choppy editing and the lack of a central narrator to fill in and make the transitions smoother and easier to follow. And why must we see the interviewer? Overall, a low budget feel to the production, like his main focus was to have fun with it.
Another disappointment was the lack of any of Dylan's music actually performed by Dylan. There are some detailed reviews on line you can find by doing a Google search, if you're considering a purchase. Nice that our library had a copy to view.Bob Dylan Revealed (2011) Overview

- endless blathering by music critics and "social commentators," (who, with the exception of Eric Tamm, are irritating and too often incorrect)
- playback of Eno's commonly available studio recordings with unexplained (and frequently inexplicable) video clips
- portentious narration that provides the few laugh moments in the film
- a few interesting interviews with musicians who've worked with Eno (particulary Hans Joachim Roedelius)
- a few staggeringly bad interviews with musicians who've worked with Eno (particularly Lloyd Watson)
- a SMALL AMOUNT of Eno footage from the 1970s, some clips of which are repeated close to a dozen times
This disc does not contain, in any quantity:
- Interviews with Eno (save for about 30 seconds of him talking about Roxy Music)
- Interviews with any of his collaborators (save for a very brief clip with Jon Hassell)
- Music you haven't heard before
- Video you haven't seen before
- Information you didn't know before (except for the stuff that's wrong)
- Experts you want to hear from
Sometimes unauthorized documentaries are incisive portraits of difficult people who didn't want the truth told about themselves. Sometimes they are simply half-assed jobs suffering from a lack of access to the subject. This is the latter.

Breakfast in America ReviewSupertramp practically *owned* 1979 with their mega-smash album from that year, "Breakfast In America." The British band had been making creative, irresistible pop/jazz/rock for nine years & five albums by this time, but "Breakfast," the sixth album, was The Big One for the group, a #1 smash on the album charts all over the world. Though certainly not a "concept" album, the theme for "Breakfast In America" came from bandleaders Roger Hodgson & Rick Davies, who, for this album, wanted to write songs about what it was like to be a British person living in the USA, which is what the whole band were doing by this time. Credit Hodgson & Davies for writing such wonderful songs, such as the hits "The Logical Song," "Goodbye Stranger," and "Take The Long Way Home." But even the non-hits are shimmering beauties, such as "Gone Hollywood," "Oh Darling" (not to be confused with the Beatles tune), "Lord Is It Mine," and the exuberant finale, "Child Of Vision," all played to perfection by Hodgson, Davies (who both do great vocal work as well), sax player John Halliwell, bassist Dougie Thomson, and drummer Bob Siebenberg. This new remastered edition of "Breakfast In America" sounds sensational, with greater boom & clarity than any CD version of "Breakfast" that I'd ever heard before (including the now-defunct gold disc version from Mobile Fidelity). Now you can enjoy Supertramp's all-time classic the way it was meant to be heard. Born to Run ReviewBruce Springsteen has said that when he set out to record this album, he was going to make "the greatest rock and roll record ever." Well, maybe he came up short, but if so, only by a hair. "Born To Run" is nearly flawless from beginning to end; each song tells its own distinct story, yet all are wonderfully woven around the album's central theme, which is also the title of the record.
Over a quarter century after the release of "Born To Run," we may have come to take this album for granted, forgetting the incredible rush it gave us the first thousand times we heard it. Make no mistake - this is one of the best rock albums ever recorded. From the lyrics to the melodies to the production, The Boss held nothing back. This recording provides evidence that Springsteen works as hard in the studio as he does on stage.
Each track is now, after all these years, immediately recognizable - the opening harmonica strains of "Thunder Road," the symphonic piano introduction to "Jungleland," the organ that kicks off "Backstreets," and, of course, the explosion of sound that is the title track.
The production here is obviously influenced by Phil Spector, the legendary inventor of the Wall of Sound. Lyrically, Springsteen evokes memories of early Dylan. (Listen to the song "Backstreets." I've always felt this song was Springsteen's nod of acknowledgment to Bob, with the feel of the song closely resembling that of "Like A Rolling Stone.") The vocals are reminiscent of Roy Orbison, but with more of an edgy sound. The final product is a masterpiece, and should take its place alongside the best of Dylan, The Stones, The Beatles, and Hendrix when the history of Rock and Roll is written.
"Born To Run" immediately catapulted Springsteen into the mainstream of American Rock. Thankfully, he was never inclined to rest on his critical laurels. He has consistently created great music for over 25 years.

Nirvana: Live at the Paramount (2011) ReviewI bought this in addition to the super deluxe box set because I wanted the show on blu-ray and not just standard DVD. I had read about the sync issues on the BD (after purchasing but before playing it), but was hoping it was just minor and that people were over-reacting. Not the case. It is HORRIBLE to watch! You hear Dave hit the snare almost a full second before seeing it. It's just inexcusable. And no, it isn't my player or receiver. I have watched countless other blu-rays on the same equipment and not a single one of them had audio/video sync issues. I tried watching the BD in every sound/visual combination possible. They were all the same; just bad. I couldn't even finish it. I put in the DVD that came with the super deluxe edition just out of curiosity. Sure enough, there are no sync issues at all on the DVD. The audio and video are in perfect time.
I'm with others that hope that there is a recall and reissue of this. I was really looking forward to this on BD and now it's just going to collect dust, unless Best Buy will let me return it. I would gladly buy a replacement if they fix the issue and reissue this.Nirvana: Live at the Paramount (2011) OverviewIf you are experiencing issues with playback of your Nirvana "Live At The Paramount" Blu-Ray, it is likely due to a Settings issue.The master and test discs have been QC'd numerous times on multiple players to confirm that they are correct. Here are some trouble-shooting solutions to consider:1. Please make sure your player is running the latest firmware available from the manufacturer of your device. If not up to date, please update according to the manufacturer's guidelines. 2. Please try to power down your player (reboot) as this sometimes clears the cache of the player and remedies a playback issue. 3. If you are using a separate audio system for sound, please check to see if your system supports the audio configuration listed on the disc's packaging. 4. Verify the issue exists without any enhanced playback processing such as 120hz, 240hz or 600hz refresh rates or motion vector processing. Please consult your player's manual and/or manufacturer's technical support if you are not familiar with making these setting changes. 5. Check the setting on your audio receiver (if applicable) to verify the correct sound field is displayed for the audio configuration selected on the disc.If not, try different selections to see if this affects the playback. 6. Please consult your player's trouble-shooting guide or manufacture's technical support for any further steps.Please note that great care was given to ensure a quality Blu-Ray disc was created.Audio/video synchronization playback issues have not been replicated at the manufacturer or releasing company testing facilities on multiple players.*****Fresh off the release of what was soon becoming the seminal album of a generation, Nirvana took to the stage of Seattle's famed Paramount Theatre to an unwavering homecoming crowd while on the road in support of Nevermind.
