Christiane F - O.S.T. ReviewThis is one of the few Bowie compilations that makes sense. Perhaps the only one that really will fit nicely into a Bowie fans Bowie collection. Because it focuses on just one period it retains a mood throughout. Most people have a favorite Bowie period or two, and this happens to be one of mine. Theres a lot of great stuff on the four albums from which these songs are taken but here you get to hear them in different company, like a highlight reel of the 76-79 period. V-2 Schneider followed by TVC 15 is a great way to start any listening session. Then the German version of Heroes and Boys Keep Swinging which has some of the wickedest guitar ever heard on a Bowie song. Then the quiet interlude of Sense of Doubt which fades out into the long train intro to Station to Station(live), a great version. Then the studio version of Look Back in Anger and a great version of Stay and another fade out into the moody Warszawa. My only complaint is that this intersting cycle doesn't keep going. Its over too quick. But the good thing is that you get to hear songs you already know in this unusual order which for once on a compilation disc makes a lot of pleasing good sense. Perhaps the movie should get credit for this, the movies heroine is a Bowie fan and these are her favorites and that gives this collection a personality lacking in other collections. Much better than the professionally selected and marketed packages which are never very good. Maybe future Bowie compilations will learn from this approach. The best is to own all of Bowies 76-79 CD's, but this is a worthy second best and a great intro to those who want to get to know this period.Christiane F - O.S.T. Overview

Bowie, David - Rare And Unseen (2010) Reviewat least it was cheap. i read a great review of this somewhere but apparently that person hadn't actually seen the movie otherwise they would have known that 42 minutes into it the 'editor' (a term i use very loosely) cut back in 5 minutes of footage that had already been shown. aside from that, the interviews are random, the editing is incoherent, and the whole disc is a waste of 64 minutes. i threw it away as soon as i finished it as there's no one that i dislike enough to subject them to this waste of time and $12.Bowie, David - Rare And Unseen (2010) Overview

Inglourious Basterds ReviewWe all get excited anytime a new film by Quentin Tarantino comes out, and with every new film, he keeps topping himself with a more epic soundtrack. Well he's did it again! and with a very unique selection of music. If you're lucky enough to have the complete soundtrack to Inglourious Basterds (like me) than you will especially love this killer soundtrack. There is a few problems I have with the soundtrack they're selling here (not the music used in the movie) but I will share that with you on the last part of my review.

The Green Leaves Of Summer by Nick Perito: Opening Credits.
The Verdict (La Condanna) by Ennio Morricone: Hans Landa Arrives.
L'incontro Con La Figlia by Ennio Morricone: The assassination of Shosanna's family and her subsequent escape.
White Lightning (Main Title) by Charles Bernstein: Pvt. Butz's introduction and Basterds aftermath/Lt. Aldo carving a swastika into Butz/introduction to Shosanna and the theater in 1944.

The Hunger (1983) ReviewI saw 'The Hunger' when it was in the movie theatre in 1983. I didn't know what to expect but David Bowie's presence in the film made me go into the theatre.Esthetics! Esthetics! Esthetics! Beautiful people, beautiful set, beautiful music wrapped into the warm womb of blood sucking and immortality and escapism. The storyline doesn't move me, though every performance is stellar. I never develop any empathy for the characters, though I would like to sit down and have lunch with them (on the condition I'm not on the desert menu.)This is the kind of film one might call a guilty pleasure. No social or intellectual message or value, but imprints itself upon the emotional psyche. It provides a window into another side of one's usual self. Do I believe in vampires and the creature feature scifi world, no. But it can be fun.The dvd quality is excellent. Much better transfer than the video we've had all these years. Really glad it's available and in our film library. Enjoy this world where beauty and pointlessness meet for no other reason than to entertain you.The Hunger (1983) OverviewHUNGER - DVD Movie

Peter Gabriel: New Blood - Live in London (2011) ReviewGet a big screen TV, turn up the volume, push play. The next thing you know it will be over. The orchestral arrangements are so compelling and powerful that you can do little other than submit to them and not notice time passing by. I've seen the live concert a couple of times. In the theater I heard textural details in the mix that I didn't notice live, despite the live sound being great too. Details that, as a composer, blew me away. If you have a good sound system, and let yourself just be drawn in, you won't miss the drums and theater of previous tours. The visual effects are first rate anyway - no gimmicks required. The sound in the theater was as first rate as movie theater sound gets, so I would expect nothing less on a good home theater system.
The 3D in the theater was very effective.
In addition to PG fans, this is a MUST BUY for anyone into orchestral music or who wants an introduction to creative orchestral textures!Peter Gabriel: New Blood - Live in London (2011) Overview
