Playing By Heart: Music From The Motion Picture ReviewThis is a great soundtrack from a great movie, with quite an eclectic mix of music. It's rare to find a CD with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Chet Baker, Fluke, PJ Harvey, and John Barry side by side, but this CD has all that and more, and somehow it all flows well. All the songs are great but the best (in my opinion) are "Drinking in L.A.", "Lover's Will", "Cigarettes Will Kill You", "Remembering Chet", "Tijuana Lady", and "Been Around the World". There's something here for everybody, and people who buy this CD for one specicfic artist are bound to be happily introduced to new artists and music styles they never thought they'd like--that's been my experience.Playing By Heart: Music From The Motion Picture Overview

Lily Was Here Soundtrack Review"Lily was Here," an obscure German drama in the vein of "La Femme Nikita," has a jazzy soundtrack accompaniment. Dave Stewart, better known as the music half of the Eurythmics, displays his knack for moving the movie along with very moody tracks, featuring Candy Dulfer on saxophone (in one of her first musical appearances before recording on her own). He manages to create a sound all his own. Also on-hand is Annie Lennox, singing a somwhat acoustic version of "Here Comes the Rain Again," this song alone makes the soundtrack worth the cost, evoking a completely different level of emotion from Lennox's performance.Lily Was Here Soundtrack Overview

Bobby McFerrin - Live in Montreal (2005) ReviewThis is dvd is a full unedited concert held at a Jazz Festival in Montreal.
It features mostly solo songs by Bobby McFerrin. In addition, there are
some very talented guests (Jorane, Richard Bona and others) who improvize
with McFerrin. The concert is both entertaining and astonishing.
I was once told that true art is art that connects you to your deeper Self.
This is what I experienced watching. My wife told me I had a permanent
grin on my face watching this dvd. The very inspired McFerrin, his
astonishing voice (sometimes producing more than one tone at once)
his communication and interaction with the audience, and the 'duets'
with the guest artists make this concert a very uplifting experience
and a joy to watch. From the classical Ave Maria by Bach-Gounod to
some jazzy improvizations with Richard Bona, and McFerrin's impression of
"The Wizard of Oz".... without any gimmicks or artificial means, this is

Luther Vandross: Live at Wembley (1989) ReviewWhat a wonderful singer we've just lost. This video is priceless. His renditions of A House is Not a Home and Superstar on this concert dvd can only be outdone by the man himself. Not only is Luther's voice velvety smooth but I guarantee that no one can adlib a song like he does. He could sing happy birthday and stretch it to last 30 minutes. There are great singers who can sing what's written on the page but they can't give you anything more than that (i.e. Whitney Houston). But it's all those little extras that Luther puts into a song that made it special.
Ladies and gents, I kid you not, when he sings Superstar it is truly mesmorizing. You actually feel exhausted when he finishes the song because it's packed with so much emotion. But while he sings it all you can do is sit there like you've been hypnotized, hanging on every note, and waiting for and wanting of it more even though you know he's done with it.
Luther has always prided himself on being a story teller. There's no talent required to write lyrics that ask us to get undressed and jump in the sack with someone. But a poet can find so many creative ways to express emotion and that's what holds your attention. It's the story of love being told. Not just songs about jumping on someone's bones. That's what brings out the feeling of love we have for one another. This is, today, a rare art. Whatever shall we do without Luther? There will never come another I'm afraid.
No one can compare to him and that's the heartbreaking thing of it all. I hope he now sings in the midst of the angels.
...And now another has taken flight,
to leave this world of hateful plight.
And when I close my eyes to be kissed,
I'll think of your music and how you'll be missed...
Rest well!
