Bobby McFerrin - Live in Montreal (2005) ReviewThis is dvd is a full unedited concert held at a Jazz Festival in Montreal.
It features mostly solo songs by Bobby McFerrin. In addition, there are
some very talented guests (Jorane, Richard Bona and others) who improvize
with McFerrin. The concert is both entertaining and astonishing.
I was once told that true art is art that connects you to your deeper Self.
This is what I experienced watching. My wife told me I had a permanent
grin on my face watching this dvd. The very inspired McFerrin, his
astonishing voice (sometimes producing more than one tone at once)
his communication and interaction with the audience, and the 'duets'
with the guest artists make this concert a very uplifting experience
and a joy to watch. From the classical Ave Maria by Bach-Gounod to
some jazzy improvizations with Richard Bona, and McFerrin's impression of
"The Wizard of Oz".... without any gimmicks or artificial means, this is
a very entertaining concert that I recommend everyone to watch.Bobby McFerrin - Live in Montreal (2005) Overview

The BQE ReviewSufjan Steven's "The BQE" is a fantastic, cinematic experience. Do not be tentative to embrace this music solely because it is predominantly instrumental. Yes, the film lends visual direction to the music, but the music stands strongly on its own. The compositions are energetic and well orchestrated. The music is larger and more bombastic than some of Sufjan's softer, indie folk songs, but the subject necessitates the size. None of the movements are particularly abstract, so I doubt even fans who never listen to instrumental music will have trouble relating to this soundtrack. There are lyrics in the final piece of the soundtrack. The film is a relentless collage of mesmerizing BQE images presented in a clever triptych format, with a hula hoop as a spinning wheel motif. I really enjoyed the film. Coming from an artist who works in grand concepts, "The BQE" has to be one of Stevens' most brilliant and unified works. The BQE Overview

Glory: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ReviewI am a huge fan of movie soundtracks. I've listened to them my entire life, before any other form of music. This score stands out from all the others I have ever heard in my life. James Horner deserved the Oscar he got, but not for Titanic. Don't get me wrong, Titanic was good, but you have to admit that the Oscar was for the popularity of My Heart Will Go On. I see his Oscar as one for Glory, just delayed by 9 years. I am a huge fan of John Williams, but this one score by Horner is equal to any of Williams' Oscar winning performaces. Horner's use of drums and the fifes are just as powerful as Williams' violin solos by the legendary Itzak Perlman in Schindler's List. If you want to be emotionally moved by a piece of music, you won't find a better cd than the Glory soundtrack by James Horner. Other suggestions: Appollo 13 by Horner, Hook and Nixon by Williams, Star Trek First Contact by Jerry Goldsmith.Glory: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Overview
