Inglorious Bastards (Three-Disc Special Edition) (1978) ReviewI watched this classic on HBO as a child and loved it. I recently bought it and watched it the first day I received it. It is the best "B" class WW II movie out there. The acting is pretty good and the story, while implausible, is pretty cool. All of the actors were perfect for their role. Other than Bo Svenson, Fred Williamson, and Ian Bannen, I have not seen any of the other actors since. It's too bad. I would like to see them in something else. By the way, if any of you out there who were in the service is wondering why Bo Svenson sounds authentic calling cadence in the movie, it is because he was in the Marines for six years. The movie is relatively short by today's standards so pause it if you go to the bathroom. Anyway, a great and fun movie. I loved it as a kid and do today.Inglorious Bastards (Three-Disc Special Edition) (1978) OverviewThree Disc Collector's Edition Includes Exclusive New Bonus Features And Never-Before-Released Soundtrack CD
"Whatever THE DIRTY DOZEN did," screamed the ads, "they do it dirtier!" INGLORIOUS BASTARDS is more than just the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's long-rumored next movie; this 1978 international smash remains perhaps the biggest and most badass war movie in EuroCult history! Exploitation legends Fred 'The Hammer' Williamson and Bo (WALKING TALL, KILL BILL) Svenson star as the leaders of a gang of condemned criminals who escape from an Allied prison camp with a plan to blast their way to the Swiss border, only to find themselves 'volunteering' for a suicide mission deep inside Nazi occupied France. Academy Award(r) nominee Ian Bannen (FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX, BRAVEHEART) co-stars in this explosive action epic from director Enzo Castellari (STREET LAW, THE BIG RACKET), now fully restored from original vault elements for the first time ever in America!

Gods & Generals ReviewPersonally, this soundtrack is the first Academy Award-winning nominee of 2003 (and others agree). 'Cross the Green Mountain and Going Home are haunting ballads that not only reflect upon the Civil War, but also upon each other. One is the Celtic song, Going Home, beautifully performed by Mary Fahl. The second, Bob Dylan's country song 'Cross the Green Mountains, is eight minutes long but still adds greatly to the soundtrack. From what I know about the movie, the Irish Brigade was given some deal of screen time, so naturally, I think more about the Union during Going Home, and the Confederates during 'Cross the Green Mountain.

John Frizzell and Randy Edelman do a superb job in this soundtrack. Although Frizzell composed the majority of the music, you can still hear a little of the original Gettysburg theme from time to time. One improvement I think they made was the addition of vocals to the music. Gods and Generals and VMI Will Be Heard From Today are good examples of these vocals. I'm listening to the music now, and WOW, it has EVERYTHING! Even if you don't like the Civil War, and you don't want to see the movie, you have to hear this music!!
The DVD was great addition to the soundtrack. It has the theatrical trailer on it, as well as two music videos and six or so deleted scenes. Face it, if you're a Civil War fanatic, the DVD alone is worth the overall cost!
This soundtrack does a superb job of including the many feelings of the war while still packing the epic punch of Gettysburg. It displays everything from the tragedy and the horror to the hopeful and the inspirational, no matter what side they were on, and in the end, it offers us something that is truly American.Gods & Generals Overview

Glory: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ReviewI am a huge fan of movie soundtracks. I've listened to them my entire life, before any other form of music. This score stands out from all the others I have ever heard in my life. James Horner deserved the Oscar he got, but not for Titanic. Don't get me wrong, Titanic was good, but you have to admit that the Oscar was for the popularity of My Heart Will Go On. I see his Oscar as one for Glory, just delayed by 9 years. I am a huge fan of John Williams, but this one score by Horner is equal to any of Williams' Oscar winning performaces. Horner's use of drums and the fifes are just as powerful as Williams' violin solos by the legendary Itzak Perlman in Schindler's List. If you want to be emotionally moved by a piece of music, you won't find a better cd than the Glory soundtrack by James Horner. Other suggestions: Appollo 13 by Horner, Hook and Nixon by Williams, Star Trek First Contact by Jerry Goldsmith.Glory: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Overview
