Grindcore: 85 Minutes of Brutal Heavy Metal ReviewGrindcore: 85 Minutes of Brutal Heavy Metal (director unknown, date unknown [early 90s?], DVD release 2003)
I've been having an argument on and off with an associate of mine for over a decade as to whether Godflesh were a grindcore band or not. Well, I finally have the proof I need, in the form of an old Hard 'n Heavy video magazine that found its way to a DVD release in 2003. While it focuses on bands that were more "classic" grindcore (Napalm Death and the like), there's Justin Broadrick belting out "Christbait Rising".
As has been said before, if you're looking for an introduction to or a history of the genre, this is not the release for you; this was made for existing fans of the genre during (or just before) its heyday. Preaching to the choir, as it were, and as a result it probably has more value now than it did back then on nostalgia alone. If you were there, you want to pick this one up. ***

Underneath a Northern Sky (2009) ReviewBefore this dvd came out, it said that there was going to be a full live show, all of their videos and a ton of bonus footage spanning their whole 15 years as a band. While the bonus footage and interviews were well done, there are no videos in sight. The setlist was so short and the last song listed on the back of the case is not on the dvd. The All Night Lights was played for close to 5 seconds, then it cuts to the studio track and shows abunch of fans while it says the band member's names... just like in the beginning. Since this is my fav. 36 song, I was really looking forward to it. I dont understand why they would have paid to have it filmed and the sound taken off the soundboard and mastered, and not use it. It makes no sense. This product just seemed rushed and poorly put together.Underneath a Northern Sky (2009) Overview

Lamb of God: Walk With Me in Hell (2008) ReviewKilladelphia was a perfect dvd to compliment Lamb Of God not only for their live performance, but the honest "warts n' all" portrayal of the band during the documentary footage (see infamous Glasgow fistfight for example). Here we are 3 years later after the release of Killadelphia, and we now have Walk With Me In Hell, a 2 hour documentary on the release of the much anticipated Sacrament and the tour that followed. While there's not so much fighting or drama here like Killadelphia, this dvd doesn't shy away from the realism. If 2 hours isn't enough for you, extras include live performances, plus the complete show from the 2007 Download festival, the making of Sacrament (the same documentary featured on the bonus dvd included in the special edition of Sacrament, perfect for anybody that doesn't have it), the official video for Redneck, and making of the video. While there are other killer band dvd's that are out (Unearth, God Forbid) and coming out (Cannibal Corpse, Nevermore) this year, this is simply one to get.Lamb of God: Walk With Me in Hell (2008) Overview
