With Toquinho & Bethania En La Fusa ReviewLa Fusa was a "cafe concert" (night club) located in Mar del Plata, Argentina in the late sixties, and later moving to Punta del Este, Uruguay. The two cities were, and are, the playground of the Argentine high class (and increasingly middle class as well). Vinicius brought his great Brazilian musicians to demonstrate the wonderfullness of bossa nova to appreciating crowds. There are two recordings, this one made I believe in Mar del Plata, and another one (referred to above) made in Punta del este with Maria Creuza, which is also wonderful. Brazil: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ReviewMichael Kamen's score for Brazil is sweeping, soaring, and captures all of the hopeful longing of the protagonist dreamer of the film. Any fan of Erich Wolfgang Korngold will love Kamen's symphonic rendition of the title song, which plays throughout. I don't normally care for dialogue provided on a soundtrack (for instance, the overbearing voice-overs on Hans Zimmer's Hannibal soundtrack or the sometimes unnecessary dialogue on Vangelis' Blade Runner soundtrack), however I didn't mind so much for the dialogue on this soundtrack. Live: His Greatest Hits & More ReviewInserted in a state-of-the-art Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-Ray Player with latest firmware version 1.7, the disc plays fine all the way through the long promotional trailer, which advertises several Universal Music Blu-ray titles including this one. At the end of trailer the player simply STOPS!. The menu for the Lionel Richie content never comes up and CANNOT BE ACCESSED! I tried every conceivable "work around" to try to get it to play Lionel Richie content. I own over 60 Blu-ray discs, all of which play fine in this player and I am not new to Blu-ray having owned a Panasonic DMP-BD10a before this player. The same thing happened with TW0 (2) Blu-ray discs. The first one I purchased via amazon.com/uk. The second one I purchased from amazon.com Same result. Last year, I ordered this title on standard DVD and one whole channel would not play. Lionel Richie should be upset and FIRE somebody! Absolutely ridiculous! And very frustrating, expensive and time consuming for this fan!Live: His Greatest Hits & More Overview

Gary Moore & Friends: One Night in Dublin - A Tribute to Phil Lynott (2009) ReviewAs with almost everything that Gary Moore releases, this DVD has great moments, strange decisions and bad moments. Let's check them:
1) Good factors: sound quality is excellent. Crisp, loud and clear. Brian Downey is playing very steady, as strong a drummer as ever. Gary is playing like hell. Man, this guy is s master of the six-strings. Scott Gorham: the Black Rose instrumental part is breathtaking. The guy played with conviction and hit every note right, enjoying the moment.
2) Strange: Gary beginning the show with a solo tune. Maybe he just wanted to warm up the audience... Also, maybe because the concert was an homage to Lynott, the bass player was extremely low profile, even vclearly being clearly professional and a great player. Not bringing Sykes was weird.
3) Bad moments: Brian Robertson. It hurted me to see the guy barely being capable of playing, It was clear he was going through the motions. An embarassing moment.
Gary singing at the top of his lungs. Subtlety is not a virtue of him... He sings the songs in a harsh and "brutal" manner, totally devoid of any of the nuances used by Lynott. This is annoying at sometimes.

Diana Krall: Live in Rio (2009) ReviewDiana Krall and company do it again! Another fine live performance we can experience again and again on DVD. The musical selections are very well recorded and nicely arranged. The group's generally laid-back mood is definitely in sync with this Brazilian-inspired concert. The instrumental improvisations are polished and very musical and Diana's vocals will transport you to Rio.
To those pseudo-techie critics, I recommend you pull your heads out of your iPods and really listen to the fantastic performances here. As a life-long jazz musician myself, I have better ears and probably better electronics than most of you. I find no basis for your negative reviews. As the witty Mose Allison once wrote, "Critics... they can't swim and they can't even float. They just stand at the shore and wave at the boat."
Pay no attention to the "amateur opinion havers" and blog-trogs. This is an exceptional Diana Krall concert and DVD recording. If you like her work, you'll probably love this video.Diana Krall: Live in Rio (2009) Overview
