Sesame Street Presents - Follow that Bird (1985) ReviewI would like to recommend this movie to anyone who knows what it is to sit through 20 sequential showings of the same film because of a 5-year-old's obsession. This movie is the only one that none of us mind seeing over and over again. The story is genuinely funny and moving (Big Bird is taken away from Sesame Street and adopted by Dodos) and wants to go home. Meanwhile, the folks on Sesame Street are trying to find him to bring him home. And finally, a very funny couple of "Sleaze Brothers" have kidnapped him to turn him into the Blue Bird of Happiness for their 10-rate carnival. This is very well done and performed with genuine love by a very talented set of actors. See it -- enjoy!
Sesame Street Presents - Follow that Bird (1985) OverviewA meddling social worker sends poor Big Bird off to Ocean View, Illinios, for the comforts of family life with his "own kind," the Dodos. But Big Bird is a disaster as a Dodo and, lonely and homesick, he soon sets off on foot for Sesame Street. Can his old friends find him before he runs "afowl" of trouble en route?

Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days (2009) ReviewThis DVD set was nostalgic and at times almost brought tears to my eyes. For those parts (The ladybug picnic, The pinball counting to 12, the cartoon typewriter, the cast iron "I", etc) I would give it ten stars. Sesame Street literally shaped my life as a young child. I watched it religously until age seven (I'm thirty-five now). The reason for my three star rating is because of the lengthy songs and dull skits, which unfortunately took most of the time. Leena Horne singing didn't do it for me at five and she especially doesn't do it for me now at thrity-five. Sorry, but same to you Diana Ross. I wanted to see more of the aliens ("yep, yep, yep...nope, nope, nope"), Bert and Ernie, Super Grover, and the Tiddly-winks (who were suspiciously absent).
Watching this DVD made me realize how they should now call Sesame Street, just plain Elmo's World. That's who it's really all about now anyway. I loved the good old days when ALL the characters received equal billing. Now it seems like the first forty minutes of Sesame Street is just filler until Elmo, the big star, shows up. Don't get me wrong, I like Elmo, and so do my three little ones, but all the other characters have their own personalities and ability to teach as well. This DVD is a reminder of that.
So CTW if you're reading this, I would buy every single episode of Sesame Street from 1974-79 if you put it out on DVD. Stop teasing us with these short DVD releases showing only clips. To those of you who are thinking of purchasing this DVD set, I would get it, it is worth it. You're sure to see something that will bring back a memory.

Find the answers and much, much more packed into this special anniversary DVD set, which includes clips from all 40 seasons, interviews with cast and crew, including Jim Henson, as well as amazing behind-the-scenes peeks at how Muppet magic is created.

Sesame Street: 25th Birthday - A Musical Celebration (1969) ReviewBoth my toddler and I loved this video. For my toddler, it has several advantages: one, it's an hour long and can replace Sesame Street itself if you missed it that day (just get an Elmo's World tape to follow up). Two, it has a full cast that includes the newer characters who weren't around in my day: Elmo, Telly, Prairie Dawn and many others make an appearance. Third, the celebrity cameos are few and serve the storyline well.
As a former puppeteer and avid Sesame Street fan, I really enjoyed watching it myself. It has old clips that have almost disappeared: the original "Rubber Ducky" with the floating bubbles, "C is for Cookie," "I'm an Aardvark, and I'm proud," and some of the letter and number clips you might remember as a kid. I also liked that the storyline was filmed outdoors, making the production values somewhat better than other Sesame Street videos. Having a store of all the "important" songs is really useful, too.
Enjoy this video with your kids - and tell them about the "olden days" when Snuffy was an imaginary friend of Big Bird's and Ernie grew critters - what were those things called? - in his window box.Sesame Street: 25th Birthday - A Musical Celebration (1969) OverviewSesame Street - 25th Birthday - Musical Celebration DVD Everyone's invited as Sesame Street celebrates its 25th birthday! The whole family will want to sing along with this special hour-long collection of favorite Sesame Street songs, featuring "C is for Cookie," "Bein' Green," "Monster in the Mirror," and many, many more! Ernie sings a medley of Duckie songs, including "Do De Rubber Duck," "Put Down the Duckie," "The Honker-Duckie-Dinger Jamboree," and, of course, "Rubber Duckie." Big Bird leads the whole cast in a rousing finale of "Sing." You're sure to treasure this wonderful collector's edition of Sesame Street for years to come.Product Measures: 0.5 x 5.4 x 7.5 INRecommended Ages: 12 months & up

Wee Sing Together ReviewMy mother bought this as a VHS when I was a child in the 80s. I don't remember being so fond of it, but it kept my little brother reasonably entertained. However, since that time, plenty of cousins and family friends have borrowed our video and become obsessed. I can think of occasions when 3 different families have begged us to give them the video because their kids (ranging from ages 4-9) love it so much that they will watch it over and over and over again. (My mother wouldn't relinquish probably out of sentimentality reasons.) Now 20 years later, my daughter is 1.5 yrs old and we dug this video out to show her. She sat still for quite awhile watching it, something she has not done for any other video or program. I'm going to have to purchase the DVD for my own home.
I can't say that as an adult, it's a particularly enjoyable movie. The kids all overact every single line and exaggerate their facial expressions to the extreme. That said, the singing is fairly good, and the dancing and concept is cute. I don't know what the magic element is, but it seems to work to keep kids enthralled. Most of the songs are classics: Itsy bitsy spider, Bingo, Old MacDonald, If you're happy and you know it, Head Shoulders Knees & Toes, Rain Rain Go Away, etc.
If you have kids aged 4-8, I'd highly recommend it. Although I wouldn't recommend having your kids live in front of the tv screen, it's good for parents to have a secret weapon that will guarantee an hour of quiet while getting important chores done occasionally.Wee Sing Together Overview
