Shadow Stalker: Songs from Vanyel's Time ReviewThey cost $20, from the original fire-bird sellers. And I thought that was expensive!
I've been waiting for this CD to come to Amazon, ever since I read the Magic trilogy and learned that it had music to the songs in the back of the third book! But with prices at $100+, there's no way I'd buy it here!
Until the price is lowered to $20, or lower, I don't suggest -anyone- buy this here. A CD is not worth that much.
Aside from the highway robbery prices at the moment, the songs are really only for fans who have read the book, and not before! The songs are HUMONGOUS spoilers. Theses songs also grow on you. There are a few you won't like to listen to at first, but like fungus, they most certainly do grow on you! Most of the songs are sung by Heather Alexander. She's an amazing artist.
If you're a true fan of the Valdemar series, this is a must have! Just please, don't buy it for anything more then $20. It's robbery!Shadow Stalker: Songs from Vanyel's Time Overview

Mason Jennings: Use Your Van ReviewThis journey of the release of Jennings' "Use your Voice" is amazing. It follows the band members (without too much personal detail) through their trials and tribulations of life on the road, recording on a non-major label and the development of the music. The cinematography is amazing and is not overly jumpy like a lot of other music dvds. Definitely one of the best I've seen thus far. It plays on the processes musicians go through (but doesn't pick up the "poor, pity me--i live on the road vibe) and really focuses on the meaning behind the music. A must for any Mason Jennings fan. Belle et Fou ReviewThis CD is one of the all-time greats in my collection. Belle et Fou literally has it all: R&B, chill-out/lounge, house, downtempo, 70s-style pop fusion, disco, and even some Barry White-esque soul. Despite the multitude of genres -- it is a compilation, after all -- there's a beautiful cohesion among the tracks. The underlying theme of orchestral soul-jazz is complex yet unifying.
Melodic horns, lush strings, muted synth, and the gamut of percussion instruments make this CD one of the most unique and satisfying albums I have ever heard. What's even more satisfying is that you get 19 tracks of this musical bliss.
Apparently, Belle et Fou ("beautiful and crazy" in French, but the adjectives are in feminine and masculine forms, respectively) is an all-senses-incorporated theater/dance dinner show at the Casino of Berlin. Jazzanova was commissioned to create this "musical mosaic" of a soundtrack. Many of the tracks are not their own; working with the show's director, they chose the music specifically to fit the mood of the show. However, Jazzanova did write and produce several of the tracks themselves; these blend beautifully with the other hand-picked selections and add to the relaxed mood of the album.
This artsy, soulful album will quench a musical thirst you didn't know you had. Highly recommended!Belle et Fou Overview

It is not, in the final analysis, a film "about" music. Instead, it provides cultural and poltical contexts for understanding and enjoying Colombia cultural production of all types. Still, the music (there is a lot!) is outstanding, the "talking heads", for once, actually have something worth hearing, and the images are searing and memorable, particularly during the last ten minutes or so.
