The Flamenco Clan: Herencia Flamenca (2004) ReviewThis is a well-made German-made documentary about the Carmona flamenco family from Granada, i.e. los Habichuela. Taking the guitarist brothers Juan and Pepe Habichuela as reference-points, it covers everyone from their grandparents, through their children (who form the nucleus of the rock group Ketama) to their grandchildren! We see them at home, practising, performing and just chatting. How good it is to see young children learning music this way, through osmosis and perpetual encouragement, rather than by the conventional Go-into-that-room-and-practise-and-don't-come-out-until-you've-got-it-right classical methodology that my wife (for instance) had to endure.
How happy the grandparents must be to see their progeny happy and successful, after what they themselves had to go through under Franco (described briefly but graphically).
So full marks for this DVD from me. One touch I particularly liked is that most DVDs have about 20 seconds of theme music which, if you don't choose one of the menu items, repeats endlessly. But this one has a beautiful Fandango de Huelva that keeps going until you get to the end.The Flamenco Clan: Herencia Flamenca (2004) Overview
